Yamaha FZ16

FZ16 is one of the most fashionable bikes ever released in India. It has a muscular look with a massive tank size. The steel fuel tank is surrounded by plastic resin outer cover giving the tank cover a powerful shape with modulations suggestive of the muscular body of an athlete.

It has a newly designed engine that is 153cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder, 2-valve with a maximum output of 14 Ps and a maximum torque of 14 N.m. The engine of this bike has been designed for urban commute. The suspension of FZ16 is a Monocross rear unit which provides 120 mm of wheel travel with optimised oil and damping valve. It inhibits bottoming while riding with a passenger. The muffler has an external diameter of 35mm and has adopted a two-layer type exhaust to minimize the effect of heat on the pipe. The layout features a large-volume primary character on the underside of the crankcase. The muffler is an irregular shaped tapered type mid-ship muffler.

It has a special rear tyre which is the first radial tyre in India with an aspect ratio of 60%. Both the tyres are tubeless type that is less susceptible to sudden flattening if the tyre is punctured. Like the other recent models in India, FZ16 comes with a large Ø267mm disc brake. The two-pot caliper makes full use of the outer perimeter of the disc to provide strong stopping power. The optimised specs of the operational parts provide a high-level of balance, excellent initial braking performance and good operational touch.

Yamaha has always experimented with its headlights and FZ16 is no different. It has a uniquely shaped headlight with transparent lens. The bike accelerates from 0-60 kmph in just 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 111kmph (quite high for Indian roads). The mid range thrust and the highly tuned throttle response is designed to give the feel of an ultra-powerful bike. All in all it’s one of those cool bikes which teenagers will prefer to flaunt but can not afford. It is priced at a whooping amount of approximate 70,000 INR.
