iPod Nano 5th Generation
iPod Nano is back with a serious attitude change. This is the first iPod in the dedicated music player segment of apple, containing an integrated video camera and FM radio.
The iPod 5th Generation has similar physical dimension as the 4th Gen. It has height of 3.6 inches, width of 1.5 inches, depth of 0.24 inches and weighs merely 36.4 grams. Though this series comes with a larger screen then before which is 2.2 inch (diagonal) TFT display and has a pixel ratio of 240 by 376 pixel at 204 pixels per inch. The frequency response of this device is 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz with user-configurable maximum volume limit and the audio formats supported are same as before (AAC, MP3 etc). The capacity of this has been increase to 16GB and is available in both 8 & 16 GB. It can hold upto 2000 to 4000 songs in 128 Kbps AAC format, 7000 to 14000 iPod viewable photos and 8 hours or 16 hours of video. The captured videos are 640 by 480 pixels going up to 30 frames per second with AAC audio and can have 15 real-time special effects Sepia, Black and White, X-Ray, Film Grain, Thermal, Security Cam, Cyborg, Bulge, Kaleido, Motion Blur, Mirror, Light Tunnel, Dent, Stretch, and Twirl.
The Nano 5th Gen has some cool addons incorporated in it. It comes with a voice over kit supporting languages like Chinese, German etc (upto 20 voice over languages). The spoken menus in the new Nano let’s you hear many of the names of menus, song titles, and artists without viewing the screen in 20 different languages. An alternative large font can make menus easier to read and also the captions in video are displayed when they are present using a legible, high-contrast white-on-black font.
iPod Nano 5th Gen also comes with cool features. The Genius feature in Nano acts as a personal DJ, searching the iTunes library to find songs that go great together and organizing them into mixes. The New Nano comes with a new built-in FM tuner which has two amazing features, iTunes Tagging and Live Pause. The FM tuner lets anyone see the names of songs & artists and also lets you pause it with a click which can be resumed with another click. It can be rewind back as far as 15 minutes and then can be fast-forwarded to catch up to the live broadcast. While listening to the radio and hearing a new song it becomes quite a dilemma to remember the name or even to know who sings it. iTunes Tagging solves this problem by using the Click Wheel on iPod Nano to tag the song. iTunes creates a list of all the tagged songs so it can easily be previewed or purchased when the device is synced to iTunes. iPod Nano also doubles as a Pedometer. It uses the built-in accelerometer to keep track of the steps and help in meeting the fitness goals. Daily step goal can be created or can be set to Always On so it counts all the steps taken, all the time.
Finally, the iPod Nano 5th Gen marks the return of Steve Jobs and we are ready to see a hell lot of new innovations coming our way with new model releases.
