BMW Superbike S1000RR (2012 Edition)
With the success of S1000RR 2010 Edition, BMW is back with its latest addition to sportbike segment. S1000RR 2012 has all the features of the 2010 edition with few technical enhancements making it a much friendlier & effective racing weapon. The chassis has undergone considerable changes with the length of the shock being decreased to 4mm and front being raised by 5mm. The wheelbase has been reduced by 10mm aiding in better maneuverability. The angle of handle has been revised with the fork offset reduced to 2.5mm which is now held by a new top triple clamp made up of forged aluminum. Also, the swing-arm pivot point has been elevated by 4mm for maintaining optimum rear wheel traction.
S1000RR 2012 comes with quite a few geometric updates including a new suspension, special check valves for independent compression & rebound adjustments and integration of a 10-way adjustable steering damper. Few of the aesthetic updates includes a slimmer tail section and reshaped side panels with plastic winglets for better aerodynamics. The four engine power modes (Rain, Sport, Race & Slick) has been modified for better torque at low and mid engine speeds. The intake system has been improved for 20% larger air induction opening with a modified airbox. The altered exhaust system now features catalyzers for removing oil sump’s heat shield saving a bit of weight. Also, the 2012 edition comes with a new RR logo and upgraded plastic grills on the fuel tank.
S1000RR 2012 now has an improved brightness adjustable display with a new engine RPM font and “Best Lap in Progress” & “Speed Warning” lights. The Dynamic Traction Control has been freshly programmed. The wheelie control has been redesigned with throttle butterfly valves that opens up smoothly during wheelie. The heated grips does an extremely wonderful job during cool mornings especially for mildly arthritic hands.
All in all the Germans have again outdone themselves with a Superbike that couldn’t have got any better. Not only it’s one of the best 1000cc bike today, but with improved electronics and minor upgrades it has surpassed its predecessor. It surely is going to break some benchmark records in 2012. S1000RR 2012 is available in Racing Red with Alpine White, Bluefire, Sapphire Black Metallic and red/white/blue colours.
