Apple’s Magic Mouse
Did they really build a better mouse?
The last time I visited the Apple Store in London, I was totally mesmerized by its looks. I can undoubtedly brag it to be the world’s first uniquely designed mouse not only because of its aesthetic values but also because of the reason that it’s the world’s first Multi-Touch mouse. Nowadays, it comes packaged with every new iMac. It also has an added facility to be connected to any Mac with Bluetooth wireless technology for a Multi-Touch interfacing. Let us now review it’s features in bullet points given below.
- Magic Mouse has a seamless top shell with a smooth, buttonless appearance which makes it so sleek and unusually different.
- The mouse itself is a big button with the Multi-Touch area covering its top surface.
- It allows click and double-click anywhere and it can scroll in any direction with one finger or can swipe through
web pages & photos with two. - The touch & finger movements are recognized by an internal chip which helps it in distinguishing scroll with a swipe and therefore it can easily make out when you’re just resting your hand on it.
- It uses one of the most powerful laser tracking mechanism which makes it far more sensitive and responsive on more surfaces than traditional optical tracking. Therefore it can nearly work on every surface with the same precision without the need of a mousepad.
- It can connect to Mac via Bluetooth wireless technology, so there’s no wire or separate adapter needed and can work upto 33 feet away.
- It also acts as an on/off switch tucked in your bag and helps in conserving battery power efficiently by detecting periods of inactivity automatically.
- It’s muti-touch surface acts as gestures like as if you’re touching what’s on your screen and its momentum scrolling (similar to iPhone and iPod touch), dictates the speed by how fast or slow you perform the gesture.
- Also if you want to disable either scrolling or swiping feature or even two-button clicking instead of one, all you need to do is to go to the Magic Mouse preference pane in System Preferences to enable or disable features.
- It is supported by Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 and needs two AA batteries to run which is included with it.
To conclude it is one hell of an amazing device and will definitely revolutionize soon the hardware segment of even the Microsoft Windows based systems which have tried to imitate the Apple aesthetics for such a long time.

Wow, what a nice looking mouse! I have to admit that I’m really impressed. My hobby is collecting cool computer accessories like this.
